Tzaneen United claimed the maiden Mopani SAB League title, following a 2-nil victory over Josy United. The final fixtures of Mopani SAB league Champ of Champs playoffs, kicked-off on Sunday morning at Nkowankowa Stadium.
With the first fixture of the campaign being between Thlothlokwe Golden and Phalaborwa FC competing for position 5 in Mopani Region, whereby Thlothlokwe Golden Syrup scooped the position by beating Phalaborwa FC 2-0.
The 2nd game of the campaign was between Gawula Classic FC and Joppie All Blacks battling for position 3/4 in which Coach Peace Khosa’s side won on penalties. The highly anticipated decider of Champions match was between Josy United and Tzaneen United, a battle of two underdogs Coaches.
The first 15 minutes of the game were exhilarating, as Tzaneen United dominated in terms of ball possession and creating chances, as the game went by the Blue Samurai’s picked up possession and both teams were inseparable going into the halftime.
As the 2nd half whistle was blown, Josy United tried taking the game away from Tzaneen United but weren’t able to reach the final third, Tzaneen United took the lead on the 62nd minute through Matome Dhupa, Tzaneen United later doubled their lead through Koketso Giggs Mathole from the spot and that was the start of a new chapter for Team Lebapola as they were crowned Champions of Mopani Region. Tzaneen United will represent Mopani in Inter-Regional Playoffs.
