In and around Alexander roads have been blocked ahead of a planned total shutdown. The plan is to total shutdown in protest over undocumented foreign nationals in the area.
Law enforcement carrying out a small brief operation around Pan African mall and arresting alleged members of Dudula movement. Alexander roads are being swept. Dudula movement are blocking roads with burning tires. They are calling for a total shutdown of the township.
Foreigners say members from the Dudula movement go in a store and ask for jobs and if they do not get those jobs, they subsequently get a shutdown. Dudula movement are denying about being Xenophobic saying they are protecting the economy.
Alexander residents say they do not want to join. They do not support the burning tires they just want to go back to their normal lives. They say they are confused with this riot because they were under the impression that the Dudula movement was focusing on traders and not residents.
The police have confirmed that there are no injuries, but they have made arrests and have outnumbered the members of the movement.
