South African footballer and Ke Yona product Thulani Cele has gone missing since the 2nd of May 2022, Cele left South Africa for football trials in Georgia.

The 22-year-old soccer player, who hoped to break into international football in Europe, enlisted the help of an agent he met while in the Nedbank Ke Yona squad named Baggio.

Upon his arrival in Georgia it appeared that Cele was lured for Gagra FC trials that turned out to be a scam. According to Baggio on SA Fm Cele was never assigned to any specific club and he never pitched for trials, Baggio revealed that Cele was assigned to 3 clubs and Gagra was his last option.

Cele is said to have last spoken to his family on June 3 the day he was supposed to come back to South Africa, notably his family received a call about his arrest yet there’s no trails of his arrest nor the name of the police station he’s being detained at. The Department of International Relations has intervened in the search of the 22-year old with the help of the South African embassy in Poland to investigate the arrest of former Amazulu player Thulani Cele
