SASSA | New Rules and Payment Dates

“The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is still in the process of paying out the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.”

The agency (sassa) have in the recent announced the reintroduction of the SRD R350 grant, which follows with new payment rules for beneficiaries. The new rules relate to the amount of the SRD grant as well as its period of payment.

The rules are as listed as follows:

  • The Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress monthly payment is R350 per person and is payable for the months of 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023.
  • The Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress grant may not be paid to a person for more than three consecutive months at a time without confirmation that the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements, and may be extended for up to three months at a time.
  • The payments in terms of these regulations. (a) are limited to the sum authorized to the vote of the Social Development Department for social relief of distress for the fiscal year 2022/2023, and (b) may only be made in relation to applications accepted by the Agency between 1 April 2022 and 31 March 2023.
  • Payments may be made in a later period, notwithstanding sub-regulation (3), for an application or an appeal filed within the periods set out in these regulations, if funds are available.

Payment dates have also been released for the month of May. Below are the dates pertaining payment plans, issued out as per the last digits of your ID number. “These are the dates throughout which Sassa will process R350 grant payments during the rest of May 2022”:

  • 03 MAY: NO PAYMENT
  • 04 MAY: NO PAYMENT
  • 05 MAY: NO PAYMENT
  • 06 MAY: NO PAYMENT
  • 09 MAY: 080 & 085
  • 10 MAY: 081 & 086
  • 11 MAY: 082 & 087
  • 12 MAY: 083 & 088
  • 13 MAY: 084 & 089
  • 16 MAY: 080 & 085
  • 17 MAY: 081 & 086
  • 18 MAY: 082 & 087
  • 19 MAY: 083 & 088
  • 20 MAY: 084 & 089
  • 23 MAY: 080 & 085
  • 24 MAY: 081 & 086
  • 25 MAY: 082 & 087

“The dates listed above are arranged according to the last three digits of a beneficiary’s ID number. Beneficiaries are also advised to wait for an SMS informing them their grant is ready for collection.”
