The Department of Home Affairs is planning to reduce queuing in their branches on the sun or rain. People will soon consult with their nearest shopping malls to get their IDs and Passports.
Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi revealed this when he presented his department’s budget for the 2022/23 financial year this week. Motsoaledi said as an immediate relief measure they have been engaging several malls in the country.
“Operating Home Affairs offices at malls will minimize the problem of queuing in the sun or the rain. We shall start with Menlyn Mall in Pretoria, Cresta Mall and Southgate mall in Johannesburg, the Pavilion in eThekwini and Tygervalley mall in Cape Town,” said Motsoaledi
Another immediate relief measure that Home Affairs is implementing is a new online bookings system called BABS (Branch Appointment Booking System). This system is currently being piloted in 24 of the department’s busiest offices, according to Motsoa
