ANC Win NMB Metro But Pipped To The City Of Ekurhuleni By DA

ANC

The ANC sealed the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro after Eugene Johnson was elected as the Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor whilst the DA’s Tania Campbell was elected the City of Ekurhuleni executive mayor on Monday, 22 November 2021.

The ANC’s Eugene Johnson edged DA’s Nqaba Bhanga as she secured 60 of the 119 council votes compared to Bhanga’s 59 and thus elected as the Metro’s executive mayor by one vote. Buyelwa Mafaya was nominated and elected as the Metro’s deputy executive mayor whilst Cllr Gary Van Niekerk was elected as the speaker of Nelson Mandela Bay council with Wandisile Jikeka nominated for the Chief-whip position.

Whilst the ANC celebrated the Nelson Mandela Bay win they were pipped to the city of Ekurhuleni Metro as the DA’s Tania Campbell beat the ANC’s Mzwandile Masina to the Ekurhuleni Hot seat securing 116 of the 222 council votes with Raymond Dlamini also from the DA securing the speaker seat as speaker of the Ekurhuleni council.

The EFF also celebrated a victory today after securing the Metsimaholo Local Municipality in the Free State through Selloane Motjeane who was elected as Executive Mayor of the Municipality.

However, the ANC and DA are set to still go toe to toe for Gauteng’s arguably biggest metros with the DA’s Vasco Da Gama having already secured the speaker seat of the Johannesburg council.
