Two hippos in Belgian zoo have been placed in quarantine after they tested positive for Covid-19, this is reported as the first ever case of animals of their type.

Belgian zoo vet confirmed that the two Hippos  have tested positive for covid-19 with no symptoms of the virus but just a runny nose, as a precautionary measure the two animals have been placed on quarantine.

The two Hippos are reported as mother and daughter, Hippo Imani just 14 years od and her mother Hermien 41 years old are in isolation from other Hippos following the discovary of the virus, the good news is that they are not showing any symptoms and effects of being harmed by the virus.

Studies have identified a range of animals such as cats, ferrets, hamsters, non-human primates, minks, tree shrews, raccoon dogs, fruit bats, and rabbits that are susceptible and permissive to SARS-CoV-2 infection, some institutions have advised those infected with SARS‑CoV‑2 to restrict contact with animals.
