Mangaung | Five Suspects arrested for Cable theft

Mangaung

Stolen Cables at an estimate of R7 000, were detained by the members of the Mangaung Metro DOCC Crime Combating Unit, after being found in the possession of five suspects, during the early hours of a Tuesday morning 12 October.

The members were monitoring the R702 when they discovered a suspicious white NP 200 Nissan bakkie heading towards Bloemfontein, fully loaded with individuals sitting in the back, on top of a cargo. The police pursued and followed the strange vehicle, eventually stopping it near the entrance to Mangaung Maximum Prison.

When they approached the car, they instantly realised the vehicle belonged to the Mangaung Metro Municipality. Members approached the driver and requested permission to inspect the big cargo at the back of the bakkie. Upon inspecting, a stack of rolled uncut cable and other small parts were uncovered.

The driver informed the Mangaung Metro DOCC Crime Combating Unit, that he worked for the Mangaung Metro Municipality. He and four other accused were arrested on site, for allegedly possessing stolen cables.

The cable was eventually recognised as belonging to a telecoms business, with an estimated value worth R7 000. On Thursday, October 14, 2021, the five accused will appear for charges of cable theft, at the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court.
