Three men arrested for smuggling drugs worth over R6 million in KZN

The South African Police Service have confirmed the arrest of three men found smuggling over R6 million worth of heroin from Mozambique to Empangeni on Tuesday, 23 November 2021, in Empangeni, Kwazulu-Natal.

According to the SAPS, the three suspects aged between 27 and 40 were nabbed at the Nseleni Offramp by the Empangeni task team yesterday after police received intelligence with regards to the suspects.

“Police received intelligence with regards to the suspects who were transporting drugs from Mozambique towards Empangeni,” the SAPS said.

“An operation was put in place to act on the information. The vehicle with three occupants was spotted and it was stopped for a search to be conducted. Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered 23 bags of heroin hidden in the bin of the bakkie. Each bag weighed 2kg and the estimated street value of the recovered drugs is R6.9 million. The suspects were placed under arrest for possession of drugs,” added the SAPS.

The suspects were set to appear in the Empangeni Magistrate’s court today for possession of drugs.
