Mahwelereng

Taxi violence between taxi and maxi drivers leads to one fatality in Moshate / Mahwelereng Crossing, Mokopane. On Friday morning residents of Mokopane were advised to avoid N11 and use alternative roads due to taxi violence that erupted over routes and passengers.

It is alleged that the cause of this violence was that taxi drivers do not want maxi  drivers to operate at the taxi rank, as they are taking their passengers, many residents around the area prefer using maxi’s instead of taxi’s as they get home earlier compared to the taxi’s. The violence broke out in the early hours of Friday morning and has left one dead. The police later arrived at the scene to contain the situation.

It is also revealed that the taxi drivers of Mahwelereng have asked the taxi drivers of Naboomspruit to come and assist them against maxi drivers.  The violence has led into the nearby complex closing for the day, some residents have described the situation as Marikana Part 2.

The shooting has left many talking on social media, LA Mash on Facebook wrote “ Batho badi taxi ba gafa swanetse motho a palle ko zola ka koloi ya gage.” meanwhile G What- What Monama on facebook also wrote
