Following a heated exchange of words between Ngizwe Mchunu and Kwazulu-Natal MEC of Public Works and Human Settlements Jomo Sibiya, the utterances made by the MEC in the heated exchange left women angry and feeling disrespected.
The MEC compared Ngizwe to a woman and stated that he did not deserve the respect or the title of being called a man. This left women feeling highly disrespected and calling for the Honourable Sibiya to apologies. Ngizwe Mchunu called for change in the cabinet asking Mr President to remove Jomo Sibiya and others from cabinet.
Ngizwe said “Jomo Sibiya doesn’t deserve to be in cabinet or be MEC and should go to herd Mr President’s cattles in Limpopo as he is destroying the province of Kwazulu-Natal.”
Jomo Sibiya later on apologised for his words “The video circulating on social media was an error in judgement on my part for which I take full responsibility. The video was recorded in the heat of the moment.
I am a product of strong women, both in my upbringing and in my political development. I am also a great champion of women advancement and equality.
Equating someone to a woman in a derogatory way was an error for which I apologise unconditionally.Society expects far more from people entrusted with the kind of responsibility that I have. I promise to do better and to continue serving with diligence and humility.”
