Mamelodi Sundowns launch investigation into alleged Al Ahly Convoy delay outside FNB Stadium By Fans

DSTV Premiership defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns have released a statement in response to reports from their CAF Champions League clash against Egyptian giants Al Ahly alleging that Pitso Mosimane’s side were delayed entry into the FNB stadium by Sundowns Fans blockading Al Ahly’s team bus on Saturday, 12 March 2022.

The Pretoria based club have threatened to take ‘strong disciplinary action’ against any club supporters who were involved in the incident outside the FNB Stadium which may result in the implicated individuals being prevented from attending any future matches if Al Ahly’s complaints are ‘factually justified’.

“Sundowns has initiated an investigation and has also contacted the South African Police Service to determine the facts and circumstances that resulted in the statement which appears on the Al Ahly website relating in the delay of the Al Ahly convoy at the FNB Stadium by certain spectators,” the club said in their official statement.

“Mamelodi Sundowns will take strong disciplinary action including preventing irresponsible supporters from attending future matches if the complaints by Al Ahly are factually justified,”the club added.

Mamelodi Sundowns further reiterated that they have a duty and obligation to ensure that Al Ahly and any other football club that it Hosts are treated with respect, courtesy and dignity that they deserve and also revealed that they will be in contact with Al Ahly to obtain their version of events after the Egyptian club made clear their discontent at their treatment on Saturday perpetuated with them returning to Egypt on the same day after the match.
