The young singer Lil Meri aka King of Voice Samuel Maritus Malatji, who died at age 22, received a beautiful send off from family, friends and fans, he was known for his touching music that carried messages of meaning.
The young music maker had a lot of fans and followers who loved his music, Mapitlula Sports Ground was packed from corner to corner joining as one in celebrating the life of their beloved Lil Meri. Under a blue stretch tent, lied the lifeless body of the King of Voice in a coffin, with an emotionally cheerful surrounding.
With his touching songs played throughout the ceremony, his friends and colleagues sang and danced for him with family and friends sending out a few words, describing Lil Meri as a devoted fella who gave nothing but the best work to his ability, writing music that carried truth and reality.
The ceremony was productive, with the likes of King Monada attending and performing for Lil Meri’s final day as they accommodate the same genre of music with other local artists. The “Ke Ngwana Motho & Ba Melomo” singles writer was later taken to his final resting place. The village of Ga-Motupa have celebrated the singer the best way they know how.
Malatji family have expressed their heartbreak in the sudden passing of their child after a short illness and have thanked the community of Bolobedu as a whole for loving and celebrating the King of Voices in allowing his memory to live even when he is gone. “Long live Lil Meri long live.” cried out his friends throughout the ceremony.
