A Refugee Status Determination Officer is arrested for taking in R500 bribes from foreign nationals. A witnessed reported the crime that led to her arrest. “Home Affairs official arrested for taking R500 bribes from foreign nationals. The RSDO was arrested after a Department of Home Affairs security guard saw her take money from the Bangladeshi national”

South Africa has been turned upside down with citizens wishing for illegal foreign nationals to leave South Africa. Rage was instilled in many when foreign nationals protested, calling for Minister of Home Affairs Aaron Motsoaledi to resign. This made many South Africans feel belittled saying foreign nationals feel empowered to make their own law instead of abiding by and practicing the law as per the constitution of South Africa.

Politicians have also taken part in the argument, Julius Malema of Economic Freedom Fighters, called Operation Dudula movement group, a bunch of criminals who should leave foreigners alone. Musi Maimane of One South Africa joined in, saying citizens should rather focus on unemployment and not blame foreigners while at it. It’s Herman Mashaba of ActionSA who since he was Johannesburg Mayor, word out to get foreigners to return to their native countries. On a tweet about Somalians and Parkistanians who were protesting for the resignation of the the minister, Mashaba says this is an opportunity for the Home Affairs to monitor if those marching have papers and are here lawfully and if not should be dealt with immediately.

People are now not afraid to voice out their opinion about the situation at hand, labeling South Africa as a refugee camp even though there’s no war taking place in the neighbouring countries. A user residing in Botswana said she feels for South Africans and is proud such taking place in SA is not witnessed in Botswana and that its hard to find illegal immigrants under their strict border laws.
