According to multiple reports, DA federal council chairperson, Hellen Zille, was dragged out of a voting station at Fernwood primary school in Bethelsdorp, Gqeberha, by police after a presiding officer asked her to leave for allegedly campaining.

According to the Independent Police Investigation Directorate (IPID), investigation into a case of assault has been launched after DA’s Hellen Zille was allegedly mishandled and assaulted by police at a voting station.

“It is alleged that Hellen Zille was talking to the voters and one person reported her to be campaigning. The presiding officer allegedly asked her to leave and she refused,” IPID said.

“It is alleged the police were called in and they pushed her out of the voting station,” IPID added.

IPID further announced that another case of theft has been opened after police allegedly took away the phone of the person who was taking a video of the incident.
