Cape Town City FC into the MTN8 Final

Cape Town

Cape Town City FC thumped Swallows FC 4-0 at the Dobsonville stadium in Soweto to progress to the finals of the MTN 8 for the first time since 2018 where they will face Mamelodi Sundowns.

Cape town city were just by far the better team and looked more organised and more determined to win over their Soweto counterparts under the Interim stewardship of Simo Dladla after head coach Brandon Truter was granted special leave by the club.

A first half goal in the 42nd minute by Ralani would set the precedence for rather dominant second half performance by the Cape Town based side. Lakay went on to add the second goal of match in the 57th minute in the second half extending City’s lead to 2-0.

Ralani scored his second goal of the match 10 minutes later in the 67th minute to make it a brace for himself rounding up a sensational performance by the 33 year old. Edmilson Dove added a fourth goal of the match for Cape Town City as they completely outclassed the birds.

City, however, as impressive as they may have been are going to need another special performance if they are to beat Pretoria Giants and current DSTV premiership defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns who were ruthless in their 3-0 second leg demolition of Golden arrows.

Cape Town City have often struggled against Sundowns with the last two meetings between the two sides ending in heavy defeats for city which makes this upcoming final between these two teams more intriguing. The 2021 MTN8 final will take place on the 30th of October 2021 with the kick off time and venue still to be confirmed.
