Mzimkhulu Thebolla, Mayor of Msunduzi Municipality was rather in a jolly Christmas spirit, giving out food parcels to 20 families. But residents from the Northern area aren’t as happy.
Thobella gifted 20 families with groceries at the city hall, in celebration of Christmas, providing food for families that were negatively affected by Covid-19 and its setbacks. Thobella has identified 20 families within the Msunduzi Municipality, who will benefit from his food initiative for the July Unrest impact.
“We want to remind our people that they are in our thoughts and hopefully this contribution will go a long way in ensuring that these families are able to celebrate Christmas Day with laughter and happiness.” said the mayor
“The festive season is the time for love and unity and we encourage families to go home and celebrate responsibly also wishing the larger community of Msunduzi a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year filled with success.” added Deputy Mayor Mxolisi Mkhize
However, the northern side were not so happy with the mayor’s goodwill, questioning if the community only consists of 20 families and other important factors that require same attention and more. Community members demand power be restored in the north, as people have been without electricity for days on end.
They say as he remembered the 20 families, he should also remember the thousands whose food ended up rotten due to no electricity, safety sabotaged as no lights mean more crime. Northdale residents were not short coming in expressing their feelings calling the mayor as incompetent. They say he should take to consideration the lives of everyone and not just the 20 he wants to buy face with.
