Two Boys drown in mine dam in the Free State

The South African Police Service have confirmed that two boys from the town of Bronville, Welkom in the Free State, drowned

The South African Police Service have confirmed that two boys from the town of Bronville, Welkom in the Free State, drowned on Saturday, 08 January 2022, after going for  a swim at a mine dam in the area.

What was supposed to be a fun day out for brothers Nadio Pienaar(5) and Marshall Pienaar(7) ended in tragedy after attempting  to swim at a mine dam along with their friends.

According to the SAPS, a group of boys that included the Pienaar brothers went to a mine dam in the area for a swim. While swimming one of the boys revealed to be one of the Pienaar brothers, five year old Nadio, moved to the deeper side of the dam and struggled to come out and his older brother,  seven-year-old Marshall tried to rescue his younger brother but both of them disappeared and drowned.

&According to an eyewitness, one of them, a 5-year-old boy moved to a deeper side of the Dam and struggled to come out. His older brother, who is 7-years-old tried to rescue him but both of them disappeared and drowned,& the SAPS said.

According to the SAPS,  the incident was reported earlier morning, Sunday 09 January, and the SAPS diving unit was dispatched to the scene and managed to retrieve the bodies of the two Pienaar boys.
