The government has for months been fighting long and hard to reach about 23 Million doses of vaccination jabs given to prevent or minimise the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

South Africa has come across challenges to the virus, since the first outbreak. Jobs have been lost, the country’s economy has taken a downfall, petrol prices are rocking sky high, with now traveling banned across borders.

The government is proud to have announced the reach of 23 million doses given to residents, with all the oppression faced from the virus leading a striking negative effect, however the government have also managed to steadily move the ship when controlling the virus, even when a new concerning variant came to life.

Anyone over the age of 12 is eligible to take the jab, with no pre booking required, walk ins are welcomed. The government says “the quickest way for life to return to normal is for everyone to get vaccinated.” Taking the vaccine is not mandatory but other work environments have made it mandatory for their workers or staff to take the jab.

Due to a slow intake of the doses Vooma weekend was established to increase the number of those taking it and to accommodate those only free during the weekends. With now 23 million doses reached, the government has put a plea to the unvaccinated, aiming for an additional 1 million in one week.

The number of positive cases recorded, have also gone high since the outbreak of a new variant, with more youth hospitalised and found to be unvaccinated. Panyaza Lesufi has also called on more 12- to 17-year-old to get vaccinated as more numbers between those age is testing positive.

Anyone between the age of 12 years is welcome to vaccinate, no pre booking or SMS required, just walk in at any vaccination site near you, bring with your ID, Passport, Asylum, Refugee number or a Birth Certificate if you are under 18 years of age.
