The Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture confirmed the passing away of three netball players, an official and 25 others left hospitalized from the OR Tambo district in the Eastern Cape after the bus they were travelling in overturned near Aberdeen on Sunday, 05 December 2021.

The team were reportedly travelling to the Spar Netball Championships in the Western Cape when the tragic accident occurred, the Department also revealed that the MEC Fezeka Nkomonye has been left shocked over the horrific accident.

“Nkomonye [MEC] has requested a full report on the circumstances surrounding the accident. A total of 34 occupants including a driver and his assistant were in the bus when the accident occurred. The MEC wishes to send her heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased,” the Department said.

Mzansi tweeps have also reacted to the saddening news and condolences have been pouring in.
