“Sperm donors needed; you must be aged 18 to 35. Sperm donation is anonymous and under current law, your identity may not be disclosed to the recipient. You are invited to donate regularly. Sperm donors get paid up to R8000 for their time.”

In South Africa, it is legal for men to donate their sperm in exchange for compensation of R3000 up to R8000 and does not cost any money for the donor. One agency that helps with sperm donating is Aevitas Sperm Bank, it is a fertility clinic that works for both the donor and the recipient in need of sperm. One will be shocked that such things are only seen in movies overseas and not frankly in SA.

However even though it sounds like easy money and all but there are processes and procedures you follow, and the consequences is that you get to walk out with thousands of rands in your wallet to compensate you for the time you took to donate and helping women who prefer to get pregnant through sperm donations.

According to the Aevitas Sperm Donation Agency website, to qualify to donate with them one has to be between the ages of 19 to 37, living in Cape Town or around, obtain a degree or diploma (or registered), then you are as good as ready to start with the proceedings.

How sperm donation process works:

Step 1:

Fill in the form provided by the agency on the website.

Step 2:

The team will get in touch with you to set up a time for a free semen screening at one the screening and donation facility situated in Pinelands, Tygerberg and Stellenbosch.

Step 3:

If you pass the screening, the agency will then set up time for a free blood screening.

Step 4:

On average donations take place twice a week for about four weeks. A member of the team will brief you on what to do before sample collection day to certain the sample is of highest quality.

Step 5:

A final blood test is needed a month after your final sample has been given. Donors are also tendered the chance to as question throughout the procedure.
