Last night, the SAPS K9 Unit recovered two vehicles, seized drugs, and arrested two males, following the success of the SAPS K9 Unit in the Eastern Cape Gqeberha.

K9 Unit members detected a suspicious Orange Geely in Western Road while on patrol in Central at around 19:00. Four packets of cocaine, eight packets of Tik, and 39 Mandrax tablets were discovered and confiscated during the search of the vehicle. The driver, a 41-year-old man, was detained and charged with drug possession.

Shortly after, at around 20:40, the members observed a white Toyota legend car on Mavuso Road in Kwazakele. According to the authorities, “The vehicle was determined to have fake number plates upon closer inspection, and it was also discovered that the vehicle was tied to a March 2020 hijacking case, when it was taken from its owner in Kwazakele. The vehicle was seized for further forensic investigation and testing.”

A white VW Transporter car was also discovered in Smith Street, Richmond Hill, just after midnight at around 00:30 this morning. After examining the vehicle and questioning the driver, it was determined that the driver was operating the vehicle without the permission of the owner, who had filed a lawsuit in Grahamstown earlier this month.

The 40-year-old driver was apprehended and detained by Humewood SAPS, after which the vehicle was seized and returned to its rightful owner. On Wednesday, September 29, 2021, the two arrested suspects will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court to answer their individual accusations.
