The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) has issues a statement, ensuring the safety and security of fellow South Africans who are threatened by the National Shutdown threat, doing the rounds on social media.
According to the statement, NATJOINTS says they will have measures put in place to ensure citizens are safe for anything that might transpire from the threats. People are advised to take into consideration that it a criminal offence to prohibit someone off freedom of movement. “Those behind these messages are warned and reminded that prohibiting people’s freedom of movement is a criminal offence.”
“The NATJOINTS is calling on all people in South Africa to work together with law enforcement authorities to uphold and enforce the law. Any action aimed at contravening the law, will be dealt with accordingly within the ambit of the law. To this end, the NATJOINTS is calling for the cooperation of the public. With this said, law enforcement officers have been deployed and are on high alert to prevent and combat any forms of criminality.”
Although the government has given people the benefit of the doubt that the strike will not take place. The SAPS has also informed the public that they will be on high alert, the SANTACO taxi association have also mentioned that they will not be taking part in the national shutdown and will be operating as usual, taking people to work.
