Rosebank Mall shooting under investigation


Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello shared with the media that the matter is now being looked at as a murder case, hunting for 2 suspects and currently under investigation. Read: Businessman shot at Rosebank Mall

Spokesperson Sello says the individual identified as Asian, was seated having breakfast with two other men at the restaurant, when two gunmen approached straight towards him and fired, shooting him twice in the head, making it a hit. “It is alleged that two men wearing masks entered the Tashas restaurant and went straight to the victim, shooting him multiple times before fleeing the scene,” she said.

Witnesses say the pair got out of a vehicle and walked to the restaurant where the deceased was sitting and fired before fleeing and into a getaway car. They say they did not however notice the guns until they heard gunshots. The man was declared dead on the scene as stated by Paul Herbst, a spokesperson for Medi-Response paramedics who attended to the call. “Upon arrival of paramedics, it was established that a single male had sustained gunshot wounds. The victim showed no sign of life and was declared deceased by paramedics,” he said.

The restaurant also made use of their social media to send their deepest condolence to the family and friends in a statement: “The safety of our customers and tenants is a priority and the area has been cordoned off. Our condolences go out to the family,” it read.

The motive is still to be uncovered, however speculation are that the individual was a businessman and the shooting may have been linked to business, but not yet confirmed.
