Bafana Bafana got their 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualification campaign underway this afternoon in Harare against Zimbabwe.
Bafana Bafana were hosted by Zimbabwe at the National Sports Stadium in Harare. Both teams were meeting for the 14th time this afternoon. In their 13 previous clashes against one another, both teams have won 6 games each with two draws.
Bafana Bafana came into the fixture looking to put their AFCON failure past them, meanwhile Hugo Broos was on the bench for the first time as Bafana Coach after taking over from Molefi Ntseki in May.
The first 45 minutes lacked creativity as both teams didn’t create any goal scoring chances. The first half ended goalless.
In the second half Bongokuhle Hlongwane came in for Gift Links on the 46th minute. On the 58th minute Zimbawe also made substitutes as Tino Kadawere made his way for Terrence Dzuvkamanja and On the 61st minute Kudukwashe Mahachi made his way for Tafadzwa Rusike.
On the 65th Hlongwane knocked at the doors of Zimbabwe to give South Africa the lead, but his shot was cleared. On the 73rd minute Luther Singh made his way for Victor Letsoalo. Percy Tau also made his way for Sipho Mbule due to his poor performance in the match.
None of the two National teams managed to break the deadlock and the game ended into a goalless draw. South Africa will face Ghana at the First National Bank Stadium on the 6th of September.
