Soweto Residents Demand Electricity

Eskom

Residents in Pimville Soweto have taken their electricity frustrations to the streets in a protest. It is stated that the community has been without electricity for two whole years and that Eskom demands them to pay an amount of R6000 per household.

Residents are furious with how Eskom workers are still getting their salaries but not giving their community the service delivery. The residents have promised shut down the local Eskom offices. Residents say they have been without power for two years and many areas are without transformer boxes.

During media interviews, the community leader Thabang Moloi says Eskom employees have shown their incompetence and that they are tired of seeing ANC members who are not concerned about the electricity issue and only visit to demand votes make promises and leave.

Last year the President visited the area during voting period and promised the matter will be resolved. Residents say they fail to understand why Eskom is still not fixing the matter, despite paying thousands of rands as they requested.
