Edward Phopolo Chaane officially crowned the King of Bakgatla Ba Seabe in a coronation ceremony that took place on Saturday 11 December 2021.

After a long battle to determine who is the rightful heir to the crown of Seabe Chieftancy, Edward Phopolo Chaane was officially crowned the King of Bakgatla Ba Seabe Traditional council, in Mpumalanga.

Mpumalanga Cogta and several other government dignitaries attended the coronation ceremony of the newly crowned King, in a huge traditional ceremony that took place in Seabe Village, Mosate Section.

The confirmed King takes over the chieftancy crown after dethroning Chief Steve Makwe Chaane  who is said to have unduly benefited chieftancy that was allegedly not blessed by the council since 2001, when he was then crowned as Seabe King, it is further said that former Chief  Steve took over as an acting Chief following the death of then King Botlholo Chaane.

Several political party leaders such as Forum For Service Delivery (F4SD) leader Dr Mbahare Kekana attended the coronation ceremony.
