It has been two weeks since the president announced further lockdown measures to curb the spread of corona virus infections. South Africa is currently on adjusted level 4 lockdown. The rate of the infection has been decreasing, with that in hand maybe some stricter measures will be lifted.
Sectors of South Africa’s economy including the alcohol industry are hoping that the president will lift the regulation to open up the country’s ailing economy. The covid-19 ministerial advisory committee is expected to advise the government to review the current lockdown restrictions in the meeting with the president today.
There have been a fewer number of cases but hospital admission and death rate is yet to start decreasing. Speculations are that the President would relax the restrictions after the acting Minister of Health Mmamokolo Kubayi-Ngubane admitted that there was a significant drop in infections but warned against people “lowering their guard” in the fight against the virus.
