Orlando Pirates locked horns with Moroka Swallows Saturday evening at Orlando Stadium, at the MTN8 Quarter Finals competition.
The two Soweto based teams were drawn against each other in the MTN8 draw as the Buccaneers finished in 3rd position meanwhile The Dube Birds finished 6th in the 2020/21 DStv Premiership Challenge.
It is indeed true that, two Bulls cannot rule in one Kraal, it being Soweto. Both teams have history against each other, they previously met 8 times and Orlando Pirates only managed to win 2 matches while Moroka Swallows won 3 matches in those meetings. They drew against each other 3 times.
In the opening half, The Dube Birds managed to find the back of the net through Ruzaigh Gamildien from a superb freekick in the 16th minute, and again managed to extend their lead in the 23rd minute through Gamildien, scoring a brace for the night. In the 30th minute Buccaneers were awarded a penalty and Kabelo Dlamini pulled one back for the Buccaneers. The Dube Birds went into the half-time leading the Buccaneers 2-1.
In the second half The Buccaneers and The Dube Birds made a number of substitutions. The Buccaneers substitutions didn’t really manage to penetrate Moroka Swallows defence, as The Dube Birds held onto their lead until the final whistle, the match ended into a 2-1 win for Swallows as they dumped the defending Champions, Orlando Pirates out of the competition. The Dube Birds progress to the Semi-finals.
