Manchester United have just won one of their last 10 Premier league meetings with Liverpool, loosing this exact fixture 4-2 last season. Following their 4-2 win at Old Trafford in May.
Liverpool is looking to secure consecutive league victories at Old Trafford for the first time since 2002. The last team to score 4+ goals in consecutive top-flight visits to Old Trafford was Burnley in 1961-62.
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 25 Premier League matches against “United” teams since losing 2-1 away to Manchester United in March 2018. Should they avoid defeat on Sunday evening, it would be the joint-longest unbeaten run against “United” teams. On the other hand, Manchester United is without a clean sheet in any of their last nine home league matches.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is unbeaten in 18 league games, the longest current run in the top four tiers of English football. And away from home, the Reds have scored at least three goals in each of their last five Premier League games.
However, it is hard to fathom a situation where one of these teams is not chasing the game at some stage as both, on current form, stand a much better chance of winning football matches by outscoring the opposition rather than relying on their defence.
This will be the tipping point for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his future at the club. Solskjaer’s side, who face the Reds on Super Sunday, are already five points off leaders Chelsea after eight games, and have not won in their last three top-flight fixtures, with just one clean sheet to show from their last 13 games.
