The reigning DSTV Premiership champions, Mamelodi Sundowns locked horns with Amazulu in the opening fixture of the 2021/22 DSTV Premiership at Loftus Versfield Stadium.
In the first 45 minutes Mamelodi Sundowns and Amazulu looked virtuous upfront as they both knocked at each others goal posts. In the 43rd minute Gift Sikhakhane fouled Peter Shalulile in the 18 yard area and Masandawana were awarded a penalty and Temba Zwane converted to give Masandawana the lead in the 44th minute, registering his first goal of the 2021/22 season. Sundowns went into the half-time leading Usuthu 1-0.
In the second 45 minutes both teams created chances but failed to convert them into goals. In the dying minutes Usuthu tried to break Sundowns defence through set pieces but couldn’t get through. Mamelodi Sundowns have now registered their first win of the 2021/22 season, bagging 3 points and securing 1st position.
