Lionel Messi looks set to make his first start against Belgian champions Club Brugge in the Group A opener. The Barcelona legend moved to France on a free transfer as his contract with the Catalan giants had expired.
Messi has been offered a two-year contract by Paris Saint-Germain F.C (PSG) with an option to extend it by a year. However, Messi was left out of the PSG squad in many occasions to work on his fitness due to his late arrival in the French capital.
Nevertheless, Lionel Messi came to Paris to win the Champions League again and on Wednesday he is set to finally make his first start for his new club after he has been seen in a PSG jersey for just 24 minutes as a substitute in a Ligue1 game at Reims. The 34-year-old had been expected to make his full debut for the Qatar-owned club last weekend, but he was rested against Clermont after returning from international duty with Argentina.
Mauricio Pochettino has officially announced his selection for the French giants’ first European tie of the season, which will be away at Club Brugge on Wednesday night. But Sergio Ramos misses out through injury, with the former Real Madrid captain still to Feature for the losing 2019/20 Champion League finalists.
