Netcare 911 responded to a report, of a horrific collusion on the N3 southbound the Chatterton road and peter brown off-ramps involving 2 trucks, 2 minibus taxis, a bakkie, and 5 cars. The accidental resulted in a taxi busting into flames, burning people to death in the early hours of Saturday morning.
National spokesperson Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911, said they responded to a collision call around 6:30 am, near Liberty Midlands Mall. “When rescuers arrived on the scene the fire had spread off to other vehicles from a taxi with occupants on board” Shawn Herbst said.
While on scene, another collision occurred on the northbound carriageway, which left emergency personnel scrambling between two collusions” Emergency personnel had to jump over to the centre medium to get to the other collusion” Shawn Herbst said. Multiple people were treated on scene for burns and injuries and transported to the nearby hospital.
Fire and Rescue Services had hydraulic tools to free the deceased from the wreckage. The number of the deaths and injuries caused by the incident, is yet to be known as police are still investigating the scene.
