FC Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman hits back at claims he could be sacked

Barcelona

FC Barcelona manager, Ronald Koeman, has responded to claims that the club are planning on sacking him ahead of their league encounter against defending champions Atletico Madrid in a press conference on Friday, 01 October, claiming he hasn’t heard anything from anyone at the club.

The Dutchman was in a pleasant mood even joking with Journalists by recalling a once famous phrase by former FC Barcelona manager, Louis Van Gaal. “I am going to remember a phrase from Van Gaal. Good morning to my friends from the press. How nice that one. Let’s go.” said Koeman, as per Marca.

According to Marca, Former manager, Louis Van Gaal, was receiving heavy criticism for poor performances from the team during Barcelona’s 1999/00 season in which Van Gaal in a press conference said an ironic phrase to Journalists. “My friends from the press, I am leaving,” said Van Gaal, as per Marca.

In his press conference the current FC Barcelona manager responded to claims that his position at the club could be on the line with a number of managerial candidates already being linked with the club. Koeman indicated that no one from the club hierarchy has approached about his job.

“Nobody has said anything to me. It’s true that the president was here this morning, but I didn’t see him because he was preparing for the match,” said Koeman, as quoted by Marca. “He hasn’t said anything to me [referring to club president Joan Laporta], but I have ears, I have eyes and I know that a lot of things leak out.”
