Eastern Cape Minister of Public Works, Babalo Madikizela, visited flood victims in the rural areas of Ward 45 in Berlin under the Buffalo City Municipality on Monday January 10.
The floods have hit several towns in the Eastern Cape. Madikizela arrived at the home of a poor mother, Mthobisi Thembani, who was devastated by the hiding place of her head and her partner, Odwa Fodi.
The couple’s belongings were scattered over the area where their shack was built. Thembani sustained a facial injury after being hit by windmills by an adjoining house.
Madikizela and other ANC members who visited the tragic site said that although the government would provide for the victims, it would help families like Thembani and Fodi to find shelter while the government made efforts to provide for the victims.
“We are not going to stand up for government work, we are just helping where we can, for those people who have been affected by the shelter. We see that the rains are not over, so it is important that everyone is safe,” Madikizela said.
