On the 2nd of January 2022 the Mamaila Kolobetona tribal council announced the passing of the late Chief Khudugane Mamaila. Chief Khudugane Mamaila passed away on the 31st of December 2021 at Tzaneen Mediclinic after succumbing to a short illness.
Ever since the passing of the Chief the village of Ga-Mamaila Kolobetona in Sekgosese, Bolobedu started to mourn the passing of their Chief by not playing loud music. During this mourning period the tribal council suspended payments of tax levy (Mothelo) and other office related issues except the issuing of death notices at the moment it is still not clear if the community will mourn for a year as usual or for 6 months.
The council further suspended loud music, Dikgopa (female-initiation) & Malopo (ancestral ceremonies) girls are allowed to wear pants, and no one is allowed to farm starting from tomorrow the 13th to the 15th.
Chief Khudugane Mamaila ruled 6 communities in Sekgosese under his reign Mamaila played a huge role in the development of Nahakwe lodge, in partnership with Zuri Foundation they installed the first community-owned internet service provider for for information access and upskilling in Ga-Mamaila Kolobetona.
The memorial service of the later chief is scheduled for tomorrow at 11h00 and will be laid to rest on Saturday.
