English premier league club, Arsenal, have been dealt a huge blow with key midfielder Granit Xhaka out for three (3) months due to an injury he sustained on his right knee on Sunday, 26 September 2021, in a league derby match against city rivals Tottenham Hotspur FC.
The club have confirmed on their official Facebook page that multiple scans and assessments have revealed that Xhaka, 29, has suffered a serious injury to his Medial Knee ligament. Xhaka is an integral part of the Arsenal squad with a central pairing between him and Ghanaian midfielder, Thomas Partey, the preferred options for manager Mikel Arteta in a double pivot. The club also stated that Xhaka’s rehabilitation programme will commence immediately in order to get him back to full fitness as soon as possible.
According to transfer market, the Switzerland captain has made 225 appearances since joining the premier league club in 2016 for a reported fee of around 45 million euros, scoring 13 goals and providing a further 20 assists as per transfer market. Arsenal will hope that summer signing and Belgian international midfielder, Albert Sambi Lokonga, will be able to help fill the void left by the injured Xhaka and help Arsenal sustain their run of 3 wins in their last 3 matches.
Arsenal have 3 tough fixtures ahead of them with an away trip to Brighton and hove Albion this Saturday, 2nd of October 2021, then a Monday night London derby against Crystal Palace on October 18th and finally another home league clash against Aston Villa on the 22th of October 2021 before an intriguing carabao cup clash against Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds united on the 26th of October 2021.
