The official inaugurations of Mayors in various Municipalities in Mopani region took place on Monday 22 November 2021.
In Greater Letaba Municipality a new council was sworn in at Sasko Community Hall in Ga-Kgapane township with REC and RWC member Maria Mokwati-Malatji being elected as the municipality’s speaker meanwhile the council also elected Dagma Mamanyoha as the new mayor of GLM.
Mamanyoha replaces Cllr Matlou who’s departure has been long overdue , due to allegations of corruption, nepotism and lack of service delivery in the municipality. Mamanyoha was welcomed with struggle songs , chanting and ululation when he ascended the podium, his nomination was unanimous and uncontested for , he declared to serve his people with pride and dignity.
“I Dagma Mamanyoha swear to always uphold the constitution of South Africa and serve my community with diligence , commitment and pride.’’he said. Mamanyoha’s nomination didn’t come out as a surprise to many around his village of Ga-Matshwi as he’s been described as a selfless leader who loves serving his people , and all about empowering the youth.
Meanwhile in Greater Tzaneen Municipality, the Deputy Chairperson of the ANC Norman Mashabane branch Gerson Phetole Molapisane was elected as the new mayor replacing Maripe Mangena. During his inaguration Molapisane has called on councilors to avoid shelving work for tomorrow because tomorrow may never come.
Meanwhile two councilors by the name of Sonia Ngobeni and Cassius Machimana under the Municipality withdrawn from the council before taking an oath. In addition Molapisane said the former mayors of the municipality did a great job in laying a good foundation and the new administration will carry on where they left off.
