The Maimane Alex Development Foundation have confirmed that former Bafana Bafana midfielder Maimane Alfred Phiri has been discharged from hospital after he was shot outside his tavern on the 30th of December 2021 in Alexandra, Gauteng.
Phiri was reportedly trying to diffuse an altercation between an armed assailant and his partner when he was shot in the arm and leg where after the Assailant then turned the gun on himself and succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
“I just want to take this time to thank the loving people of South Africa for the well wishes, prayers and support that you have shown me and my family through the past two (2) weeks from the bottom of my heart I say thank you,” Phiri said.
“I have since been discharged from hospital and continuing with my recovery at home surrounded by my family and close friends,” Phiri added.
Maimane Phiri also stated that he cannot say anything regarding the shooting incident as it is currently under Police investigation.
