Timo Werner back to his upper form

Timo

Timo Werner’s first Premier League goal of the season could scarcely have come at a more important time, putting Chelsea ahead against Southampton late on, and that grabbing a victory for the blues.

It had looked like Werner’s wait to open his league account this term was over when he confidently headed in Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross shortly before half-time. That would have made it 2-0 and likely put the game beyond the Saints, but it was disallowed after VAR spotted an infringement in the build-up.

Thomas Tuchel has said that he was happy with Timo Werner’s display for Chelsea against Southampton on Saturday at Stamford Bridge. The blues defeated Southampton at home in a Premier League tie, thanks to three goals from Trevor Chalobah, Werner and Ben Chilwell. “I’m happy for Timo and I’m happy for the team. There was some relief when he scored for sure because it was 1-1 at the time with no too long to go and we came into the game off the back of two defeats,” said Tuchel.

He added that it was a fantastic goal and he was there in the right position, which he needs to be as a striker. “I remember against Liverpool that was super close but he has to keep on going. He still can improve his game but we are happy and relieved that he scored in the late minutes of the game because it was a very important goal for us to secure the win and he was where he needed to be,” noted Tuchel. Chelsea will now face Brentford in their next Premier League match after the international break.
