Thobela FM listeners have been plunged into mourning after the SABC broadcaster confirmed the shock passing of news reader Matome Maupi on Friday.

The renowned “Hlokwa la Tsela” broadcaster , who fans affectionately called Hlogo Ya Ditaba, passed away following a short illness on Thursday evening .

According to Social Media blogger Conty Lebepe, Maupi has been sick since February this year and has been on sick leave prior his death.

The public broadcaster issued a statement confirming Maupi’s untimely passing.

Tributes for the radio legend have been pouring in from Thobela FM listeners, as details of final funeral arrangements are awaited from his family.
