Barcelona lifts it’s first silverware under head coach Xavi Hernandez

Two of the biggest clubs in world football locked horns in the 2023 Spanish Super Cup final and it’s Barcelona who came out victorious over their arch rivals Real Madrid at the King Fahd Stadium, in Saudi Arabia .

Barça broke the deadlock after just 33 minutes as Robert Lewandowski parried Pedri’s cross into Gavi’s path to smash it home.

Barça doubled their lead right before halftime as Frenkie De Jong made a great pass to release Gavi, who showed great poise and stood for the right moment to give Lewandowski a tap-in making it 2-0.

Xavi’s side went into the halftime leading as they had a perfect first half and were efficient to create and score their biggest chances. Madrid did virtually nothing all half, and Barça looked in great position to win the Spanish Super Cup.

Barcelona kicked off the second half as well as they ended the first, as Pedri extended Barça’s lead midway the second half following Gavi’s perfect cross.

Madrid grabbed a late consolation goal from the Ballon D’Or winner Karim Benzema who scored a rebound of Ter Stegen’s save.

The match ended into a 3-1 victory for Barcelona.
