23-year old man was burned beyond recognition in a shack fire in Winnie Mandela Zone 3, Tembisa , on Tuesday 12 July 2022. According to the residents, the shack caught fire when the electricity was switched back on after Ekurhuleni municipal load-shedding.

“We were without electricity from 6h00 due to Eskom and municipal load-shedding. We cannot distinguish what led to this incident.” They believe the cause of the fire is the continuous electricity outages. Another incident happened in Winnie Mandela Zone 7, whereby a 22 – year old victim sustained burn wounds as the shack caught fire on Sunday evening while he was asleep.

“When we woke up we found the shack already burnt down, we don’t know what caused the fire, i’m just grateful that we managed to save him and he’s currently recovering in Tembisa Hospital,” Said Lerato Seshego (Brother)
