Water restrictions anger eThekwini residents.

eThekwini Water crises

Durban- eThekwini residents are blaming the city municipality for the new rationing of water that kicked off yesterday in most Durban areas.

The recent restrictions are expected to last 10 to 12 months while the eThekwini municipality repairs the infrastructure damaged due to the April floods. Residents are blaming the city for neglecting maintenance over the years which led to the severe damage that is facing now. I blame the municipality because they did not keep track of the maintenance” said the resident.

The Deputy Mayor, Philani Mavundla urge the residents to be calm and assured them they will have water in the mornings and evenings for several hours. Mavundla has said that dams are full, and the only problem the city is facing is the infrastructure to pump and distribute the water to the residents” We have decided that instead of getting to a point where there is no water at all, it is better the little that we preserve it, hence we took this decision and we are very much convinced that as a caring government it was good decision to take”

Residents who have been without water since the flood are worried that things are going to be worst for them because the city will concentrate more on the recently affected residents. The time frame to repair the water treatment plant in Tongaat is said to be still 5 months.
