Players with a special talent usually wear the no. 10 jersey, and world stars such as Pele, Maradona, Rooney and Messi have donned the jersey number.
While in South Africa the jersey has a special significance. Jomo Sono, Shoes Moshoeu and Steven Pienaar have all worn the number on their backs for their country, and at chiefs, there is a new man who will carry that responsibility of the famous jersey.
New Kaizer Chiefs signing Keagan Dolly was handed the famous no. 10 at Naturena on Tuesday ahead of the 2021/22 DSTV Premiership season, seeing him joining a list of illustrious names that have sported the famous kit.
On the other hand, many Kaizer Chiefs fans will pray that he does not fall in the shoes of Mthokozisi Yende, a star of the University of Pretoria side that stunned Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup in 2009, Yende formed a great partnership with Andile Jali in the heart of Tuks’ midfield.
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates signed both players respectively soon afterwards, and Jali took his new surroundings like a duck to water, Yende battled for game time, and never really lived up to the jersey number on his back.
Nevertheless, the player has since discussed the significant of the jersey to him. “Growing up, I always enjoyed wearing number no. 10, I’ve always looked up to the likes of Stanton Fredericks, Steven Pienaar and I’ve always worn the number.
So, I’m ready to step up and represent the number and the club” said Keagan Dolly. He further explained that everything it’s not new to him because he knows what the club is about, and he also knows the mentality at the club. His just ready to get settled in and down to business.
“I think me coming to chiefs is just about trying to share my experiences with the youngsters coming up. I watched Happy Mashiane and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo playing, and they are looking very good. I think where I can help, I will try my best to give advice where I can” noted the newly signed Kaizer Chiefs midfield Keagan Dolly.
