South African National Women’s team, Banyana Banyana continues to dominate in the Aisha Buhari Cup as they beat hosts Nigeria 3-2.
Banyana Banyana locked horns with Nigeria on Tuesday afternoon at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Nigeria in the final of Aisha Buhari Cup. Banyana opened the campaign with a win against Ghana on Friday the 17th of September 2021, meanwhile Nigeria defeated Mali with 2 goals on Friday. Banyana would’ve wanted to avenge themselves over the Super Falcons after being thumped by them through penalties 2018 in the Women AFCON in Ghana.
In the opening half Banyana were dominant and led Nigeria to make mistakes on the 5th minute as Alozie opened the flood gate of goals through an own goal. Linda Motlhalo extended Banyana’s lead on the 18th minute through a penalty, with Gabriel Salgado making it to the score sheet on 43rd minute. Banyana went into the halftime leading the Super Falcons 3-0.
While in the second half the Super Falcons looked disciplined and determined to steal the game from Banyana as they managed to isolate Banyana’s defence, and Vivian Ikechuwu’s brace brought hope to the Super Falcons but a late goal from Mamello Makhabane sealed the game for the South African women. The match ended into a 4-2 win for Banyana Banyana.
