Banyana Banyana wins Semi against Zambia

Melinda Kgadieta returned to  Banyana  after starting off the bench against Tunisia while Mapula Kgoale fell to the bench.

Zambia had a great opportunity to break the deadlock in the 8th minute when Ochumba Lubanji missed a goal unmarked. Meanwhile, Banyana struggled to get into the last third of Zambia in open play, and as a result struggled to get a big save from goalkeeper Katherine Musonda.

Andila Dlamini, on the other hand, was the busiest of the two goalkeepers in the first 45 minutes, but held out when Zambia shot into the  goal. Desiree Ellis made a double substitution with Kgoale and Hilda Magaya who replaced Talea Smidt and Kgadiete early in the second half.

Banyana thought they were getting a  penalty before the hour mark for Lushomo Mweemba’s foul on Noxolo Cesane but after a check from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), there was no penalty, a foul was given instead as the foul was outside of the box.

With extra-time in their hands, Banyana Banyana almost found the breakthrough as Magaia exchanged passes with Jermaine Seoposenwe just  before seeing her close-range strike tipped away by Musonda.

In the end, Banyana were given another chance to save themselves when the second minute of time was  added on after they received a  penalty backing a VAR review. Linda Motlhalo got the spot-kick, which got them their victory against Zambia a spot in the WAFCON final.
