Sardine Fever Hits KZN Shores

Sardine Run

Every winter, KwaZulu Natal gets blessed with sardines that flood the Durban shores, escaping the cold waters of Cape town. This season gets to be one of the favorite for fishermen as nets fill up to the brim.

Millions of sardines flock towards Durban, bringing tourism attraction for the province. Not only does this sardine attract visitors and fishermen, sharks birds and dolphins, prey on the fish that give the see a beautiful glow as they more from one shore to another.

The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board’s Greg Thompson confirms that this has been one successful net, and that this will be a positive outcome for the tourism. “I make no predictions as to when they will hit Durban shores because you never know with these fish, but I am glad they have arrived. It’s good for tourism,” he said.
