Over the past few days the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture announced that it would spend R22million, to install a monument flag. The flag scandal was criticized by people on twitter and the Minister, Nathi Mthethwa allegedly called Cyril Ramaphosa to ask for an advice on how to handle this flag saga , finding that people are against it.
In a video that is circulating on twitter, the President gives details about the conversation he had with Nathi, while laughing. Ramaphosa said: “Mthethwa comes to me and says ‘President please tell me when I can call you’. I say, ‘Mthethwa I am in a cabinet committee meeting, we will talk afterwards.’
“I call him back and he says to me, ‘President this flag thing, which is such a wonderful initiative, it seems our people are not happy with it,’ and I say, ‘Of course they are not happy with it. Cancel this thing” said Ramaphosa to the. crowd that was laughing at the statement, during the Black Business Council summit.
The Minister announced on Thursday that he told his Department to review the process of the flag. However, according to Cyril it has to be cancelled.
