“Mmeli Sokhela had to sit for two hours while his neighbours retrieved the dead bodies of all four of his children from under a pile of rubble.” The horrific heavy rain in KwaZulu Natal has left a father of four devastated and beyond able.
Mmeli Sokhela who resided near the the United Methodist Church of South Africa in Clermont township where it collapsed and fell on a row of rented cottages. One of the cottages belonged to Sokhela who was fast asleep with his four children at the time when flooding began and destroyed properties.
Sokhela told the media that nothing will ever hurt him or affect him as the lose of his children has ended him. Neighbours assisted in rescuing his children’s dead bodies buried under the pile of rubble.
The flood has caused multiple damage and loss of life. Over 306 lives were claimed by the now labelled national disaster. The province has seen flooding but none of this extreme destruction. Rescue teams are still on the ground, in attempt of finding missing persons. Families have expressed their devastation from losing multiple famy members including children younger than the age of 3.
